moments make us feel that we are on top of this world....

I experienced one such moment when I received my first salary....It is the fruit of my 25 years of struggle to sustain in this tough world....May be this isn't it and there is a long way to go...but definitely I cherish this moment...

The moment I got my salary,I realized that it gave me confidence, strength and more than anything else....it gave me hope...It gave me that feeling "Yes....I started my life now"....It gave me a happiness I have never experienced that only comes with a responsibility.......

Well.... being in corporate environment is a quite exciting experience.....by the way credit goes to my cool and fun loving team....life seems to be so happening though it is same routine everyday....They say "We always get the best when we wait longer".....Hopefully this feeling would stay for a while....
To all those loving parents....

What is this strange feeling that's making me aloof from this world....It's been so many moons since I spoke to my parents with all my heart....To the matter of fact I'm not feeling like to talk to any of them who know me....I just wanted to be myself....Is it something due to the fact that I am not busy with anything....Nothing is happening in my life almost since two years....My destiny is hitting me harder and harder every new day....how do I bounce back.....Tired of doing that..... Is this me who is thinking all this?? Am I tired of my own life?? I have never been into this distressed feeling as I am right now....

Then I remembered the words my dad said to me when I was a kid"No matter what happens in your life, just be happy and have faith and hope....Never loose them...that is the ultimate essence and true meaning of one's journey...If you are at a situation where in all the roads in this world seem to be closed, just be happy and believe in yourself....One day your destiny opens a new road for you that leads to your goal".......Lots of thanks to my dad....He is the best....His words gave me so much of strength and courage that I always converted my anger and stress into positive energy.....But this time I was carried away......However not a big deal...I will bounce back this time and will give my best.......Thank you so so much nanna......

I dedicate this post to all those loving parents.....

Yeh To Sach Hai Ki Bhagwan Hai,
Hai Magar Phir Bhi Anjaan Hai,
Dharti Pe Roop Maa Baap Ka,
Us Vidhaata Ki Pehchaan Hai...

Why is Yawn Contagious?

Yawn...Yawn...Yawn...Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....... But some thinks it has to do with empathy. when I read it first....But later after reading the story followed by the phrase, it's quite convincing and should be given a thought by everyone.....well here is the story that I came across.......

A number of years ago a humanitarian organization went to Africa intending to alleviate pain and suffering. The group came upon a village that suffered from an atrocious lack of sanitation services. There was no clean drinking water or sewage disposal. Children played freely in the stream of sewage that ran through the center of the village. Infectious disease claimed the lives of many villagers each month. Clearly, the people of this village needed help.

The humanitarian group, in accordance with their mission, set to rectify the situation. They paid many thousands of dollars to contractors to come to the village and build a modern water purification and waste disposal system. The contractors came, did their work, and within a few weeks the village was given a solution to their problems. The people had clean water, any trace of sewage disappeared, and the rate of disease decreased dramatically.

The humanitarian group commended themselves on a job well done (or so they believed), and left to give charity elsewhere while the villagers lived on happily ever after.

But the story does not end here. For while the humanitarians had given the villagers a great gift, they had not solved their problems.

Several months later, another humanitarian group came upon the village. They had heard about the great gift bestowed by the previous group, and wanted to see the effects of charity first hand. Much to their surprise, they found the village more squalid than ever. Once more children wallowed in sewage. Once more disease plagued the people. As before there was no clean water or sanitation to be found.

But how could this be true? The modern sanitation and water purification systems installed should have lasted for decades. Yet, in only a few months they had fallen into disrepair. The water stations were filthy and misused. A great act of charity had been for nothing!

The humanitarians, puzzled by the situation, sought the chief of the village, and asked him why his people had wasted such a gift. This was his reply.

“How can you blame us? We are simple people who know nothing of modern machinery. The others came and bestowed it upon us, and it was a great relief. But after they left, things began to break down. We do not possess the knowledge to repair these problems, and the result is before you.”

That may be true, said the humanitarians, but what about the water stations? They have clearly been abused. Have you not the common sense to protect your own assets?

At this the chief looked at them cockeyed and replied.

“And what did you expect? These people had been many years without clean water. Then you gave it to them for free in abundance. They took all they could use and more. The people did not work for those water stations. They do not own them, and they could not be persuaded to maintain them.”

The humanitarians were silent. The chief had spoken truth. The great gift alone had not been enough and the reasons could be clearly observed. Perhaps, it is human nature to abuse a gift. The humanitarians returned to their camp and thought long and hard about how they could help the villagers.

The next day the humanitarians returned, determined to rebuild the water and sanitation systems with the following conditions.
The villagers would have to pay for water and sanitation. Not more than they could afford, but there would be no gift giving this time.
A group of villagers would work with the contractors to build the system and would be taught how to repair every aspect of it. These villagers would in turn train others so the system would never fall into disrepair.

With these new conditions in place, the water and sanitation systems were stored. This time the people had respect for the systems because they owned them. This time they were able to repair the system when it broke down. To this day the villagers have plenty of clean water and live free of filth and disease.

Well we should always recall the very important saying whenever we help the poor-

Never give to the poor. Help the poor.

The Sixth Sense - An Incredible Technology

This is amazing and incredible.....The digital world interacting with the physical world....They called it the sixth sense....Long back I looked at Microsoft touching interface and was really fascinated at its mutiple touch features.....But this time the TED folks has gone a step ahead and invented this wonderful tool that connects the physical world into the world of data.....This device could recognize three kinds of gestures-multi-touch, free hand and iconic gestures.....Just imagine drawing a circle on your wrist gives you time....Imagine you meeting a person and can get information about him PROJECTED ON HIM within seconds.....Imagine a photo gesture actually captures a picture for you.....Yes this could be done by a wearable device that actually captures the physical world with its camera and then projects information about the object onto a plain surface right infront of us.....It is designed and developed by a MIT Genius Mr. Pranav Mistry.....

The genius talked about his ideas and concepts behind inventing this device-"I started working on the concept of merging the physical world and the digital world.....I think that I'm a very big fan of living in the physical world. I'm good with digital technology, but I start to miss the physical world. I miss riding my bike, talking to friends. Technology now separates us from the physical world more and more. Even social networking sites are taking us away from the physical world.

At the lab, we like making things that we can touch, we can feel, we can take with us wherever we want to go, that we know how to interact with. The digital world has power because it has dynamic information, but it's important that we stay human instead of being another machine sitting in front of a machine."

He also said that one could use this system for people who have accessibility problems, blind and deaf people.... The camera can act as a third eye for the blind person, and tell them what it sees. It could be an ear for a deaf person.....

However I fear that this system will make us more and more dependent on technology as we become more biased to its information rather than our own rational thinking.....

Sweet Memory!!!

It's been weeks since I posted something on my blog...Well I am pretty much occupied with
games and movies that I couldn't actually give attention to my blog.....Yeah! I know that
it's sounding odd that I am occupied with movies and games....well it's recession time
folks....There is nothing much better that I found doing other than movies and games to pass the time....But today I came across this touching story sent by my friend Anitha....I
couldn't stop myself from posting it.....

One day Maths teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name. Then she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down. It took the remainder of the class period to finish their assignment, and as the students left the room, each one handed in the papers.

That Saturday, the teacher wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and listed what everyone else had said about that individual.

On Monday she gave each student his or her list. Before long, the entire class was smiling. "Really?" she heard whispered. "I never knew that I meant anything to anyone!" and, "I didn't know others liked me so much," were most of the comments.

No one ever mentioned those papers in class again. She never knew if they discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exercise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with themselves and one another. That group of students moved on.

Several years later, one of the students was killed in "Kargil" war and his teacher attended the funeral of that special student. She had never attended Funeral of a serviceman before. He looked so handsome, so mature. The place was packed with his friends. One by one those who loved him took a last walk. The teacher was the last one to bless .

As she stood there, one of the soldiers who acted as pallbearer came up to her. "Were you Sanjay's math teacher?" he asked. She nodded: "yes." Then he said: "Sanjay talked about you
a lot."

After the funeral, most of Sanjay's former classmates were there. Sanjay's mother and father were there, obviously waiting to speak with his teacher. "We want to show you something," his father said, taking a wallet out of his pocket "They found this on Sanjay when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it."

Opening the billfold, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. The teacher knew without looking that the papers were the ones on which she had listed all the good things each of Sanjay's classmates had said about him.

"Thank you so much for doing that," Sanjay's mother said. "As you can see, Sanjay treasured
it."

All of Sanjay's former classmates started to gather around. Arjun smiled rather sheepishly and said, "I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my desk at home."

Prithwiraj's wife said, " Prithwiraj asked me to put his in our wedding album."

"I have mine too," Rashmi said. "It's in my diary"

Then Deepali, another classmate, reached into her pocketbook, took out her wallet and showed her worn and frazzled list to the group. "I carry this with me at all times," Deepali said and without batting an eyelash, she continued: "I think we all saved our lists"

That's when the teacher finally sat down and cried. She cried for Sanjay and for all his friends who would never see him again.

This story tells us how a small inspirational moment turns out to be a long lasting memory...This story reminded me all my teachers.....I would never forget my teachers because they are the ones who taught me morals in my life....They made me knew my highs and lows....I have learned the value of friendship, team work, healthy competition from them.....I have learned to understand people and their feelings.....They taught me to be patient during difficult times....They taught me to think rationally and see the other side of the coin.....They are the most influential people in my life other than my parents and friends....

I dedicate this post to all my teachers who are responsible for what I am today as a person......

FOUR ESTATES

In my earlier post I referred Media as the Fourth Estate. One of the comments on that post included "What is the Fourth Estate in the title refers to?".....I thought of posting it on my blog instead on the comments window....So here we are....

I remembered this word from my social classes during my high school. I know that there are four estates implemented in a democratic system for the proper operation of our society. The first estate isLegislature, Second comes Civil administaration, third comes Judiaciary and fourth is the Press. I found an interesting article on this over the Internet which expanded on the details of Estates....

"There are multiple estates of government each of which has a check and balance on the other. The first estate is of course the legislature which is elected by the people, and can enact laws.

Then comes the executive. Which is the civil service/bureaucracy; selected meritocratically.
But what prevents the executive and legislature from colluding merrily?

In come the stern judges with their stuffy wigs and robes. The judiciary; who are supposed to ensure that the laws enacted by the legislature adhere to certain "norms". These norms are typically encoded in something called a constitution.

When you look at the rampant corruption in many democracies, in India for e.g., caused by the collusive escapades of the legislature and executive, you are basically looking at the problem of a weak judiciary.

Ok, assuming one has a strong judiciary, is that enough?

Let's suppose the legislature and the executive collude. Even though the judges with their snazzy robes and wigs might be strong and bold, how would they come to know about the wrongdoings?

In comes the fourth estate: the press. While this does not have the status of an official estate, it is as important to the functioning of a democracy providing the necessary be-a-good-boy-you-naughty-legislature checks and balances.

So, we see that the proper checked-and-balanced functioning of the four estates listed above, are necessary for a democracy to succeed.

The above four estates are not all that exist in a democracy. There are two more.... in fact these two are more powerful than the first four put together. The Army and... the People. The army is an estate that has snazzy weapons like missiles and Donald Rumsfelds, and can thus rule over the country by force after declaring the constitution void on some pretext.

This brings us to the last estate --- the People. Nobody believes this estate actually exists, and so are taken aback when confided in that they are a part of this estate too. This People estate has the ultimate power --- to throw away any and all forms of government and install any and all forms of government. It could thus reinstate a democracy by overthrowing the existing monarchy/military autocracy/etc."

Unfortunately, we have the corruption deeply rooted into all those estates which is totally changing the very cause of forming them.....

Media..."The Fourth Estate"!!!!!!!

This is the article that I have came across written by Dr. Abdul Kalam about Indian Media

"Why the media in India so negative?

Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements?

We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?

We are the first in milk production.

We are number one in Remote sensing satellites (I never knew that).

We are the second largest producer of wheat.

We are the second largest producer of rice.

Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.

I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The glory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.

In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime.. Why are we so NEGATIVE?"

Never gave a thought to this.... It is always important to higlight the bad and sick going around us.....but does that leave a positive impact on us?? I never knew that a man named Dr. Sudarshan existed ever....Such kind of news we only see in sub editions some where in the corner... It is so sad that today's newspapers and channels are obsessed with circulation records and TRP ratings...The so called "Fourth-Estate" is now interested only in sensational news that can just provide mere entertainment to the viewing public and nothing else....Case-in-specific:Chiru's daughter's marriage...How does Chiru's daughter marriage has to do anything with the good for the public??!!!But that became the main point of interest for media for almost a month....There are so many trusts and welfare associations in the society that are fighting against major problems such as poverty, backwardness etc.....We hardly see about them in today's news papers....As Dr. Kalam said, if every news paper in India could highlight the good deeds done by such people in the front page, that definitely leaves a inspirational impact on us....

But contrarily, we really need to think about our contribution for this very situation of media....I mean how many of us are really interested in reading such philanthropic activities....Given a choice reading between burning problems in the society and life history of a famous personality, How many of us really go for the first one....Well in that perspective, it is obvious for the media to highlight the hot news.... Otherwise their very existence is put under question.... it's definetely not a secret that media has become a major commercial industry. And, while they try to serve the ambiguously secondary responsibility of keeping the general public informed, their primary obligation is, of course, to make money....Though one might question the virtue of putting profit before public service, this prioritization is, in a simply logical sense, practical. In order to fulfill this intrinsically "moral" responsibility, media have to stay in business, and to stay in business they have to make money. So, it's not just a bunch of newspapers and tv channels that has corrupted the power of media....it is the very "WE" that has done that whether it is a major or minor contribution....

Well change should occur in everything and in everybody right from the common man level....

Contentment in Life!!!!

Every one in this world is definitely a goal oriented person.... We always set our eye on a goal and strive hard for self improvement....Once we have achieved a goal, we start looking for another.....If we, the human race were content and we were happy with what we had, we wouldn't have been what we actually are today.... I mean we wouldn't have enjoyed any of the comforts that we have today....But we often read that contentment in life is really essential for a man to be happy.... being content with what we have and who we already are decides if a man is a happy person or not.....

So isn’t that a contradiction with the very human race being ambitious? Doesn’t that seem to indicate that we are not content with our lives? I had all those questions in my mind until I read an article and that goes as follows....

"we need to accept that we are a type of person who will always be striving for a goal, the type of person who enjoys a challenge, and who enjoys the journey. It’s not the goal that matters to us....it’s the journey to get there that is so important. And we are content with being in that journey....."

So contentment isn’t a matter with being content with our situation in life and never trying to improve it. It’s a matter of being content with what we have but realizing that as humans, we will always try to improve, no matter how happy we are. If we don’t, we have given up on life.....but on the other side we shouldn't be devastated when we couldn't make it to our destination and try harder to reach them.....after all that's the essence of being CONTENT......

How good is ur geography???

it's really fun...Play it folks.....

This Traveler IQ challenge compares your geographical knowledge against the World's First Travel journal's other 3,606,571 travelers who have taken this challenge as of Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 09:57PM GMT. You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just read the post straight through, and you'll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America Contest.

4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.

6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. They are not second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2.. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are NOT the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones who CARE.... They might not be influential in this world but they are the most influential people in our lives.....

Don't loose them for anything on this earth.....

Happy New Year!!!

Hey folks!!!

Yet another year is coming to an end and as we are on the way to welcome new year....Just thought of posting few lines and ofcourse this would be my last post for this year....The year 2008 had some good and sad parts for me....Well actually life is like that...but the best part is I started blogging this year;)... So friends do u relaize why new year is so special?? It's the only event the entire world celebrates in common(eye opener right!!!)...

Celebration of new year means a lot to optimists like me (hehehe)....It's the time to hope that every good thing in this world happens to us in the coming year....It's the time to remember the people u met, people u love, places u were part of, memories u store in ur heart....It's the time when u bid adieu to sorrow and sick and welcome new year with great enthusiasm....It's the time to make new resolutions....So I thought of taking some resolutions this year...Then I came across these lines by Douglas Pagels in one of those e cards-

Don't focus on anything you lack.

Realize that people are the treasures in life, and happiness is the real wealth.

Have a diary that describes how you're doing the best, and...the rest will take care of itself....

I feel my greatest strength is my happiness....I always try to be happy no matter what happens in my life (well I break down some times but rarely I do that)....I always treasure people around me and care for them a lot....but I never tried my best to reach my ambitions....So may be that's the right thing for me to take a resolution this year.....So friends three simple rules of life...Be happy, love people and do your best.....But for now it's the time to rock and roll and raise the toast to the coming good times.....

HAPPY NEW YEAR.......
Take an IQ test folks.....

What is an IQ?? You might be thinking that this "Dumbo" doesn't even know "What is an IQ!!!!"Hey hey....hold on.....I know that IQ is intelligence quotient.....but how do they measure it??

When I was in my high school, our English teacher gave us a debate topic "Boys vs. Girls".....Damn I still remember that day......The day on which our assumption that "we are world's good friends"was proved to be wrong.....We fought like hell pointing the minus of boys and girls.....You might be wondering why I am talking about all this junk if the post is all about IQ.....Here you go....One misogynist in our class raised a point that guys has more IQ than girls.....So he argued that even there is a generalized and world-wide acceptance that guys are more intelligent than girls......That was the time when I actually gave a thought about IQ.....Lot of questions flashed in my mind "How do they measure IQ?, Is it the only representation of intelligence etc etc." and those questions remained unanswered....Well that's the history......

Recently I took a free IQ test and that made me recall all those unanswered questions and I started googling about it on our information hub "The World Wide Web".......

Well this is it..... "I.Q. (intelligence quotient) in general, is an assessment of your ability to think and reason. IQ score is a standardized way of comparing this ability with the majority of people the same age as you are. IQ is not the be all end all of a person's abilities in life. IQ score fails to measure things such as manual dexterity (obviously), musical talent, and a slew of other abilities that may lead one to many different successes in life. However, your score on an IQ test will give you a pretty accurate indication of the ability you possess to think, reason and solve problems which can often be critical in many phases of your life."

How to measure IQ??
They divide a person's assessed mental age by his or her actual age and multiplying the result by 100. That is, if an eight-year-old's test results showed that the child had the mental capacity of the average twelve-year-old, the 12/8x100 formula would give the child an IQ of 150.

Take the test:
Come on folks!!!What are you waiting for??Just click on the link below;test your IQ and see how intelligent you are or how dumb you are(for the pessimists out there) in the bell curve provided below....

Free-IQTest.net - IQ Test

My First Post!!!

I have been thinking since many days what to put in my first post....because after all its my FIRST POST guys!!.....I don't know!!! I am so excited about my blog....Just wondering when this strong impulse of desire for writing has born in me....Thanks to "The Riki "for inspiring me with his blog "Coffee-Blog-Love-Hangout"......anyways to start with I am just putting down something that was wavering in my mind while I was working on my journal paper, The Friendship and Love. just jotting down what I felt....

Whenever this discussion of friendship and love comes, most of my friends tell me that there is a very small margin between friendship and love...... A very very thin and sensitive line which you may easily cross......That's what they told me.....That's what it is shown in the movies I am watching since my childhood......Yeah! I do agree with that!

If that is the case there should not be much difference between how we feel when we are in love and when we are in friendship.......But surprisingly that's not the case either! When I see people who are friends ultimately turned to be lovers, the way they feel towards each other change drastically.......There is as much difference in their feelings as there is between north and south poles......just wondering that how could that tiny and sensitive margin could create such a big difference....

Anyways I am thinking that if someone asks me to put the difference between love and friendship in one literal word...... I will say STABILITY

I say that Love is very sensitive and always rounded up with emotionally unstable feelings.....Highly unstable happiness......Highly unstable sadness....... where as Friendship is bounded with highly stable emotions......That's the GREATNESS of it guys.....That's why I am dedicating my first post to all my FRIENDS..... Sorry if it seems to be controversial to any love birds here.....I am not at all against Love...It is rounded up with unstable feelings but Love itself is not volatile.....

Thank you for taking interest in reading this post....Hope you enjoyed it.....
